Happy Earth Day 2024!!! Earth Day is on April 22nd each year. It is the day that we celebrate the Earth! It is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. Earth Day has been celebrated for the last 54 years. It began in 1970 when a United States senator from Wisconsin (Senator Gaylord Nelson) organized a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Approximately two million people participated in rallies across the country that year. These rallies led to big environmental changes! People and policy makers started to take notice of how important it is to protect our environment. Thereafter, the U.S. government created the Environmental Protection Agency and passed legislation such as the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Through the years more and more people have taken part in Earth Day and it has now become a global event. So what can you do to support Earth Day? Well, there are many things, both big and small, that you can do to celebrate Earth Day and make a difference. You can volunteer at a local cleanup drive, plant a tree or spread awareness on social media about environmental issues or on a more personal level, you can buy a sustainable product, recycle, turn off the lights and conserve water. Whichever you decide, each act makes a difference in saving our planet, so let’s all work together to create a healthier Earth!
